Great Central Railway (Nottingham)
Tihs line is unusual in several respects. It is a late comer to the preservation scene, yet has operated revenue earning fright from the gypsum works at Hotchley Hill. It also has a true transport museum at its Ruddington base, on the former MoD site. Work is now underway to link up with the "original" preserved Great Central line, creating one of the longest preserved lines in the country, and achieving a dream from 1973 of creating an "inter-city" preserved raiway. In the other direction, the part of trackbed has been taken over by the Nottingham tram system so further extenstion is no longer possible.
